    Bengals Dare to Care Day

Buffalo State College sent a large group of students to Parkside on Saturday and they report "the unofficial volunteer count is 844 students, faculty, and staff who worked on 35 projects throughout the city. The students all came back tired, hungry, and happy."

We'd also like to show our appreciation for neighbor and board member Bruce Wagner, who organized and facilitated the event on behalf of the PCA! Look at all the work they accomplished Saturday morning!

We are honored to be amongst the selected projects for engaging this generation of students in community service.

We always welcome volunteers! If you'd like to get more involved with the PCA, please reach out to PCAdirector@gmail.com or 716-838-1240.

     Thinking Cold Thoughts

We are no strangers to snow, so we know it's arrival is imminent. The PCA office is already getting calls for folks who are looking for either casual laborers/teenagers to shovel a walk, or snow plow services for drive ways.

If you have a referral, please let us know! PCAdirector@gmail.com or 716-838-1240.

Parkside Architecture & Historic Database Project

This past spring the PCA began an exciting new project, the mission of which is to collect architectural and historical information about the built environment in the Parkside neighborhood of Buffalo. This will be helpful for our neighborhood historians and for our walking tours, and perhaps the Tour of Homes, and for the Garden and Architecture Tour.

The first step is data collection. If you have researched your home, have stories about previous owners or the history that took place in your house, or know about the architect or something about the changes made to your home over time, that is something we would love to know too.

We would love to welcome neighborhood volunteers—especially those of you who have a particular interest in history and architecture, of course, but also if you just want to learn more and contribute.

If you want to participate in this project, please contact the PCA, 716-838-1240 or PCAdirector@gmail.com, and we can work together.

    PCA Traffic Committee Update

Traffic Calming Signs Are Now Available!

Once again, due to the high interest of Parkside residents, the individual PCA Traffic Committee members have personally contributed the financial resources necessary to launch a traffic calming sign campaign.  The first 100 signs were dispersed in a matter of days!  These signs have gotten the attention of the media, as well as drivers and residents who are frustrated by the constant barrage of traffic infractions throughout our neighborhoods.

In response to the success of our initial order, another 100 signs have been received by the committee. Please consider contributing to this campaign to make our streets safer. Each of these signs cost approximately $10 dollars to produce, so please consider a donation of at least $10 when obtaining a sign.

It is our committee’s hope that another successful campaign will assure future actions on our streets!

Signs may be picked up, and donations may be made at the PCA office, 2318 Main Street.

    Fun Facts!

The yellow and orange colors you see actually always exist in leaves but they are overpowered by the abundance of green from chlorophyll. The amount of chlorophyll starts to decrease as the sun weakens and the days grow shorter.
