    News from the PCA

    Dear friends & neighbors, 
    For nearly six years, the Parkside Community Association has been my passion and my most important undertaking. From when I took on the position in the fall of 2013 through today, I have been deeply committed to our community and our neighbors. I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved over this time, and am tremendously grateful that I have been able to play a central part in its evolution and success. There is much for us to celebrate, and much for us to be proud of.
    Each year, our organization has provided services to the residents of Parkside while operating under continuously decreasing funding sources. While we have long strived to “do more with less” we must now look into how we can transition our organization into one which can thrive under the changing fiscal climate most nonprofit organizations now face. And so after nearly six years, this will be one of my last communications from the PCA office. 
    In order to continue serving our community, the PCA Board of Directors and I have determined that it is in the best interests of our organization for us to reduce our administrative overhead and get back to the very roots of our organization. As such, I will be transitioning into a role on the Board of Directors where I will be able to join in our efforts to provide services and advocacy directly from our volunteer led committees. That effort is, after all, what this organization is about and what makes this community a tremendous place to live.
    I am confident that this is the best possible move forward for our organization, and am excited to work together with our Board of Directors to provide a strong framework for this year, and the years to come. As the PCA embraces this transition, it is more important than ever that we continue working together for our Parkside community. The board and I have planned for an orderly transition, and I will do all that I can to ensure that the PCA and Parkside continue to create a leading example for communities throughout Western New York.
    I sincerely thank our board members, volunteers, and members for their commitment to the organization and the residents we serve. Each and every person, volunteer and board member, is making a direct and invaluable contribution to our community. It has been a true privilege to work with such a committed, diverse and talented group of people and I thank each of you for the opportunity to serve our community.

    We're appreciative of our volunteers all year, but now is a great time to say thank you for all you've done to help the PCA and our neighborhood. And, if you're interested in getting more involved, let us know! We're always looking for a helping hand, especially for our upcoming Tour of Homes!


    Volunteer "Thank you" Happy Hour

    Our Quality of Life committee is hosting a happy hour event this upcoming Monday at the Parkside Meadow to thank our Aging in Place volunteers. All are welcome, especially those of you who have lent a helping hand with snow shoveling through our Snow Angels program this past winter!


    Tour of Homes Sponsorship and Patron Information!

    Would you like to show your support of the Tour of Homes? Every year, local businesses and neighbors all over Parkside support our committee and the PCA by purchasing an advertisement or a patron listing in the tour booklet. The cost for patron listings is only $50 per family, and advertisements start as low as $80 - with 100% of the cost going to support the work of the Parkside Community Association.

     Parkside Celebration of Homes

    Get your tickets now for our special event this May 18th!

    In honor of the 20th Anniversary of our signature event, the Tour of Homes, the PCA will be hosting a formal cocktail party on the evening of Friday, May 18th! For more information, and to purchase tickets, please visit the PCA website HERE.

    Our last formal party was in December of 2013 for our organization's 50th anniversary, so it's certainly time for another celebration1 And what better cause to celebrate than the 20th anniversary of our Tour of Homes!

    The PCA Tour of Homes Committee is hard at work planning exciting things for 2018, our 20th Anniversary Tour!!     Early Bird Summer Arts Camp Registration Is Still Open!

    For over thirty years the Parkside Summer Arts Camp has provided quality arts education programming for children during their summer vacations. We hope you will join us in 2018 as we continue our long tradition!

    PCA Traffic Committee Update

    Information from the Community

    Community Meeting  - 2516 Main Street Development

    Tuesday, April 24th @  7:00 PM
    St. Mary’s School for the Deaf, 2253 Main Street

    Plans have been submitted to the City of Buffalo for development of the site at 2516 Main Street. The proposal, to build a gas station on the property, was originally scheduled for hearings with the City's various planning and zoning agencies for earlier in the month. However, the PCA has worked with Councilman Feroleto to postpone these upcoming hearings so that a public meeting can be scheduled by the developer. As such, the developer has made plans to host a community meeting on April 24th at St. Mary’s School for the Deaf. If you are interested in this issue, please plan to attend this meeting. 
      

    Masten & Delaware District Bulk Trash

    Masten District: Sunday, April 29th
    Delaware District: Sunday, May 20th

    Due to this year's Tour of Homes on Sunday, May 20th, we are asking that residents NOT place any items at their curbs until after 5pm the evening of May 20th.
    Items will be picked up by City of Buffalo crews throughout the week, begining that Monday, May 21st.  Please limit your items to 12 feet long 3 feet high 3 feet wide. No electronic waste allowed.

     


    Pet Safety Reminder

    With the coming warm weather, now's a great time to remind neighbors to leash their pets while walking. This includes walks on our neighborhood streets and within Delaware Park. This is especially important to protect the health and safety of not only your pet, but of others in the neighborhood. This is also the law, and violators are subject to fining by the city.

     Exciting news from the Church of the Good Shepherd!

    Good Shepherd is very excited to announce that the Rev. Mike Hadaway has accepted our call to be Rector. He is coming to us from Trinity Episcopal Church in Morgantown, West Virginia. He and his wife, the Rev. Elizabeth Hadaway, are looking forward to meeting their Parkside neighbors and exploring Buffalo. His first Sunday will be June 10th. There will be a celebration sometime after he arrives- more details will follow.
