Tips for preventing rats in Parkside

    - Starve them. A rat's primary food sources in residential neighborhoods are food waste and fecal matter from pets so picking up all types of waste daily is crucial to keep rats away. Food left outside for birds also attracts rats. Use only rat-proof compost bin for food waste.

    - Remove their habitat. Rats love clutter. Cleanup wood, newspaper, trash in your yard. Check for holes in your foundation that will give them access to your basement or garage. If you find evidence of rats, clean it up immediately.

    - Contact the city at 311 if you find a problem you need assistance with.

If you do see a rat, please contact the Erie County Department of Health's Rabies, Disease and Vector Control Program at (716) 961-6800. The Rabies, Disease and Vector Control Program also has a helpful brochure, which you can check out by clicking HERE.
