    Invite Your Friends and Join Your Neighbors for the 20th Annual Garden & Architecture Tour This Weekend!

    THIS SUNDAY, June 25, 2017 | 10AM-4PM
    Hillside Children's Center | 70 Jewett Parkway, Buffalo, NY 14214

    Tour the local gardens nestled between the beautiful homes of the Parkside neighborhood, the suburb designed by Olmsted in 1870, during the 20th Annual Parkside Garden and Architecture Tour on Sunday, June 25th from 10 AM to 4 PM. The self-guided tour begins in the heart of the Parkside community, at Hillside Children's Center, 70 Jewett Parkway, at the corner of Crescent Avenue. A full color map and garden directory for this self-guided tour will be available for $5 on the day of the tour. The maps will direct you to the highlighted gardens.

    An Explore Buffalo, guided architectural tour is also available for $15/person. Tours depart at 9:30AM and 10:30AM from Hillside Children's Center, 70 Jewett Parkway.

    News from the PCA

    Block Club Grant Application

    Application Materials are Due Before 4PM, August 4, 2017

    The Delaware District Block Club Grant Program is designed to match the hard work of block clubs/civic organizations in the Delaware District with financial resources for use in physical and aesthetic improvement projects in their respective neighborhoods.

    Eligible Applicants

    • Recognized block clubs/civic organizations in the Delaware District.
    • Priority will be given to organizations whose mission is related to improving the Delaware District and those with a proven record of doing so.

    Eligible Projects

    • Flowers, shrubs, and/or landscaping
    • Community gardens
    • Trash/debris removal, beautification
    • Graffiti removal
    • Signage

    Ineligible Projects

    • Rehabilitation of private properties, businesses, or schools.
    • “Soft” projects such as award ceremonies, block club parties, trainings, etc.


    • Grants awarded shall not exceed $500.  
    • Applicants may only apply for funding once during the 2017 funding period.
    • Funds will be disbursed on a reimbursement basis (original invoices/estimates and receipts are required for reimbursement!).  Original invoices/estimates should be turned in with this application.  Receipts should be attached to the reimbursement form, which will be distributed if your organization is selected for participation in the program.
    • Requests for reimbursement must be placed at the Parkside Community Association (2318 Main Street) on established forms and signed by individuals representing the grantee.
    • Funds may only be used for items included in the application.
    • If funded, project organizers will be asked to submit photos of their projects within thirty days of completion.

    Application Deadlines

    Applications are due by 4pm on Friday, August 4th, 2017 and should be delivered to Councilmember Feroleto’s office (1405 City Hall).  If submitting via mail, the application must be post marked August 1st.  Applications may also be submitted via e-mail to jhurley@city-buffalo.com. Any application submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

    Project Evaluation

    Applications will be evaluated based upon the quality of information provided and adherence to the terms and stipulations described herein.  After review, each organization shall receive a communication advising them of approval or denial of their application.  If a project fails to remain within established guidelines, all remaining funds will be recaptured.

    111th Annual Strawberry Festival

    For the 111th time since 1890, the Church of the Good Shepherd will host a Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 24 from 3-6 p.m. Enjoy fresh (never frozen!) berries, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, a banjo band, basket raffle, and lawn games (in Jewett Hall if raining). 

    The Ride for Roswell

    Friday, June 23 after 6:30 PM & Saturday, June 24, after 8:30 AM

    Ride for Roswell 2017 will be visiting Parkside on Friday, June 23 after 6:30 PM at a SlowRoll event RosRoll, and Saturday, June 24, after 8:30 AM as the 12-Mile Extra Mile Club Peloton.

    Transit Oriented Development Workshop

Building upon the interest from the first round of workshops, we are hosting a second round of workshops.     All money raised helps support continuing non-profit programs of the Parkside Community Association—among them are the Summer Arts Camp for kids, Aging in Place, Crime Prevention, Housing Advocacy, Arts and Crafts Show, Traffic Safety, the renowned Parkside Tour of Homes and Garden & Architecture Tour, and the popular free summer “Movies in the Meadow” series.
